Traffic Advisory: Ladner Trunk Road from 72nd to 80th Streets will be closed during the day and traffic will be detoured via Churchhill Street from November 12th to December 20th. During off hours and weekends, west bound traffic will be opened to the public and eastbound will remain closed.

The 78th Street Interchange Project will improve travel safety and efficiency on Highway 99, better connecting Delta’s residents and local farming community and easing the traffic burden on the Matthews Interchange.

The work is designed along the Highway 99 in Delta, from approximately 78th Street to 88th Street. During the construction phase, traffic management and detour plans will take place on and adjacent to Highway 99.

The project will include:

“Flyover” Overpass – Construction of a two-way overpass connecting Ladner Trunk Road to a new connector road.
Relocate Burns Drive – Relocation of Burns Drive allowing direct and continuing parallel traffic to Highway 99 for farm and service vehicles.
New traffic circles with on-ramps and off-ramps – Creation of two roundabouts in the intersection of 80th Street and 88th Street increasing safety, traffic flow and access to Highway 99.

  • Roundabout intersection of 80th Street (South traffic circle): Intersection of Ladner Trunk Road, 80th Street, Highway 99. Construction of the roundabout will improve the access to Highway 99, Delta Fire Station No. 4, Boundary Bay Airport, local farms, and the community.
  • Roundabout near intersection of 88th Street and Burns Drive (North traffic circle): Intersection of new 78th Street Connector Road, 88th Street, and Highway 99. Construction of the roundabout will improve the access to the Highway 99 for the local businesses and commuters.

Drainage improvement across the project footprint – Enhanced ditches, storm main upgrades and new culverts.

Benefits:

  • Better accommodate growing traffic demands and connectivity
  • Improve safety
  • Relieve existing vehicle congestion
  • Improve traffic flow and travel times for Delta residents and Boundary Bay Airport
  • Support community and economic development
  • Highway drainage improvement
